Job Opportunity: Associate Dean, College of Liberal & Creative Arts

The College of Liberal & Creative Arts seeks applications for the position of associate dean. The College is composed of 21 academic departments and schools and 11 research and service organizations and affiliated centers and institutes, with a general-fund operating budget of approximately $38 million. Proposed start: August 2017.

The associate deans work with the dean, director of finance and operations, and chief of staff to provide overall leadership and coordination for academic and administrative services within the College, and to ensure the overall quality and success of undergraduate and graduate programs. The associate dean will also serve on various campus and community committees; assume a leadership role in the absence of the dean; represent the dean at college, University and community functions; and perform other responsibilities as assigned.

The two current associate deans provide leadership and exercise responsibility over faculty affairs, student services and curriculum. The new position may play a role in each of these areas as well as take on new responsibilities.

The associate deans assist the dean with, and may exercise independent leadership over, the following specific areas:

  • Resource planning and management
  • Oversight and guidance for RSOs and other centers within the College
  • Enrollment management and student success initiatives
  • Assessment, program review, and accreditation
  • Promoting excellence in teaching, scholarship and external grants
  • Faculty development, RTP and position allocation and recruitment
  • Supporting faculty external grants as well as philanthropic development and stewardship
  • Faculty personnel matters

Required qualifications

  • At least two years of academic leadership experience
  • Tenured within one of the LCA academic units; rank of associate professor (full-professor rank preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students
  • Demonstrated analytical and communication skills
  • A broad commitment to the potential of the academic units in the College
  • Ethical leadership style, professional discretion, a commitment to diversity, disciplined work ethic and a sense of humor
