Opera Scenes Workshop: Rebel with a Cause

Thursday, December 13, 2018, 7:30 pm
Painting of Juana Ines
Juana Inés: Poet, feminist, theologian, scientist and champion of indigenous people. No, this is not an intellectual activist in our own time, but a 17th-century Mexican nun who dared to take on the patriarchy of the Catholic Church and to boldly proclaim her right to create, think and love as she wished. The School of Music's Opera program presents scenes from With Blood With Ink, Daniel Crozier's one-act opera on the life of Juana Inés. The evening will also feature works setting Sor Juana's passionate poetry, including two new works by student composers Lauren Tougas and Carlos Gonzalez. Please join us in celebrating the life of the first great poet and feminist to emerge from the New World. Directed by Christine Brandes. Free.
