SF State Celebrates Extraordinary Alumni

SF STATE NEWS -- Five exceptional San Francisco State University graduates will be honored October 24 at the 2014 President’s Dinner and Alumni Hall of Fame. The event, to be held at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco, will be emceed by another outstanding SF State grad: renowned music journalist Ben Fong-Torres. Congressman George Miller, will be named SF State’s Alumnus of the Year. Miller, who received a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies in 1968, was first elected to Congress in 1975 and is the senior Democrat on the House Education and Workforce Committee. He has been a vocal, vigorous champion of education, workers, the environment and health-care reform. More alumni will join the hall of fame. Margaret Avery (B.A., ’65) is an Oscar-nominated actress (for the 1985 film “The Color Purple.” Grammy-nominated producer, engineer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Steven Miller (B.A., ’78) has worked with Pink, Jack Johnson and the Dave Matthews Band.
