Lost Socks Inspire Art of Alum Lori Goldman

SONOMA INDEX-TRIBUNE -- She finds inspiration in garments of all kinds — even simple lost socks from which many of her works are made. “I’m inspired by the women of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, and their ability to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary,” said Goldman. “In my sculpture, I use remnants of laundry, specifically lost socks. The never-ending search for that missing sock has greater meaning — perhaps the longing for what disappears. I’m fascinated by that process and the patina of wear.” Goldman holds a Bachelor of Arts in textiles and a Master of Arts in sculpture from San Francisco State University. She teaches at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.
