ALTERNET -- Sean McElwee, research associate at Demos, and Jason McDaniel, assistant professor of Political Science at San Francisco State University, analyze “This relatively simple demographic analysis does not shed much light on the political dynamics surrounding ‘political correctness.’ Perhaps unsurprisingly, we find that opposition to more inclusive language is common among Republicans, Independents and Trump supporters. Our analysis shows that attitudes about the persistence of discrimination toward black people and women are two important factors. ... “While opponents of political correctness have a powerful platform, they may not be the majority for long. As a younger, more tolerant generation becomes a larger portion of the electorate, the use of inclusive language may become the norm, rather than seen as a threat to society. However, right now, the backlash against political correctness is a powerful talking point among large parts of the electorate.”
